Part of the University System of Ohio, the University of Cincinnati (UC) has a long history of undergraduate and graduate research, fostering world-changing scholarship, innovation and entrepreneurship. Founded in 1819, UC is among the largest universities in the nation with about 36,600 students enrolled. The public, space-grant university offers a number of nationally ranked programs and more than 600 total programs of study ranging from certificates to first professional and doctoral. UC’s distance learning programs date back to 1984 with its Open Learning Fire Science program. Today, 5,600 students enroll in UC online programs through a dozen UC colleges. The university’s online programs follow an asynchronous format, allowing students the flexibility to access course materials on their schedule.
