Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s Degree Programs Online
Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s Degree Programs Online
Accelerated online degree programs allow motivated students to earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in a condensed timeframe—often just five years instead of the traditional six or more. By overlapping coursework, you can complete your undergraduate and graduate studies in one seamless track. This approach not only saves time but can also significantly reduce tuition costs by allowing you to pay undergraduate rates for graduate-level credits.
In 2025, the demand for advanced credentials is higher than ever, with master’s degree holders earning a median weekly wage about 16% higher than those with only a bachelor’s degree. While traditional paths require applying to graduate school separately, accelerated 4+1 or combined degree programs streamline the process. Online bachelor’s degree and online master’s degree programs offer flexibility, but combined pathways maximize efficiency. However, these programs are rigorous; you will want to verify that the online format matches your learning style and schedule.
Accelerated online degree programs are your fast-track option for advancing from freshman year to post-graduate professional in one straight shot. If you intend to go directly from undergraduate to graduate studies, a combined degree program can provide a direct route to academic success on an accelerated timeline. Read on to learn more about the best options for bundling bachelor’s and master’s degrees into a single, cost-effective program:

Frequently Asked Questions About Combined Degrees
A combined degree program, often called a 4+1, Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP), or PlusOne pathway, allows you to earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in a single, continuous timeline. By overlapping your senior year of undergraduate study with the first year of graduate school, you can double-count 9–12 credits (sometimes up to 15) toward both degrees. This structure typically allows you to graduate with both degrees in five years instead of the usual six. It is a financially smart move, as you often pay undergraduate tuition rates for those initial graduate credits.
It is important to distinguish these from “accelerated” degrees that simply compress a single degree into less time (like a 3-year bachelor’s). A combined program is specifically about bundling two degrees. While many of these programs are campus-based, an increasing number of universities now offer 4+1 tracks where the master’s portion—or even the entire sequence—can be completed online, particularly in fields like business, data science, and public health.
Note that combined degrees are different from double majors. A double major results in one bachelor’s degree with two specializations, whereas a combined program results in two distinct credentials: a bachelor’s and a master’s.
