The University of Southern Mississippi, a public research university established in 1910, enrolls about 15,300 students from around the world. The University of Southern Mississippi offers nearly 200 programs leading to undergraduate, graduate (including doctoral), and specialist degrees. The university has a major polymer science research center and a strong fine arts program.

The University of Southern Mississippi's degree offerings include more than 30 completely online degree programs. Online undergraduate programs include nine bachelor's degree programs, covering areas such as applied technology, elementary education, nursing, and industrial engineering technology.

Online students may also select from 22 master's degrees, including an executive master of public health, as well as master's degrees in human performance, logistics, trade and transportation, nutrition and food systems, and more. The University of Mississippi also offers a handful of online undergraduate and graduate certificate options, and a large selection of hybrid programs.

Online students have the flexibility to complete coursework on their own schedule.

The University of Southern Mississippi is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) also provides accreditation to University of Southern Mississippi’s College of Business.
