For spring 2019, we are pleased to spotlight these three awardees. Each shares her thoughts on winning the scholarship and the advantages of attending college online:

Briana JansenRichland College

Briana is working toward an associate degree in biology.

“I am so excited to have won this scholarship. Everyone knows college is expensive. While paying for college is not easy, the experiences and opportunities are wonderful and exciting. Education is one of the keys to happiness, and with help from this scholarship, I plan to make the most of it.

“Taking online classes has enabled me to thrive in college while allowing me the flexibility to take care of my young children. Online courses allow both for the college experience and for flexibility when real life happens. Creating a better life for my family is the most important thing to me, and my degree in biology will allow me to better my family through financial opportunities. Teaching high-school-level science will enable me to help educate tomorrow’s leaders and help shape the future of our country and our world.

“College has also helped me collaborate with more people who have different life experiences. I want to be able to help everyone succeed in my future career. Creating an accessible science curriculum for those with disabilities is a priority. College has allowed me to ask my professors for advice in my academic and career endeavors as well as my personal life.

“Thank you so much for the opportunity to reach my academic dreams! ”

Jessica LeungArizona State University Online

Jessica is working toward a bachelor’s degree in history.

“I am over the moon about winning this scholarship from BestSchools.Org. It came as a great surprise, and I am thrilled to be able to move forward with my bachelor’s degree at Arizona State University Online. This means a lot to me as I am able to complete my degree and be able to move forward with my career in the humanities.

“The most positive factors in attending Arizona State University are the remote aspect as well as connecting with a community of students who are also determined to complete their degree. I enjoy connecting with other like-minded students who are also historians and who aspire to bring back their knowledege to the community, to museums, and to other institutions that will utilize their expertise. Attending college remotely allows a lot of flexibility to work a full-time schedule and not worry about commuting to school or moving to the college. It is untraditional, but I appreciate that ASU has these options for students who have obligations to the home, a full-time job, or who cannot move for financial reasons.

“Thank you ASU and, for supporting untraditional methods to pursue your education.”

Ashley TaylorMississippi State University Online

Ashley is working toward a bachelor’s degree in geosciences.

“I cannot explain how important and how much this scholarship means for me in obtaining my bachelor’s of geosciences degree online from Mississippi State University. I’ve had financial need for several years now, and seeing how I could barely make my college payments … this scholarship is a huge sigh of relief.

“For me, cost is also one of the reasons I chose to do it online. I could not afford to pay for room and board at a meteorology college, and the nearest colleges were all too far away from where I live to commute everyday. Doing it at home has helped, and it definitely has been positive doing it all online. So, this scholarship is going to help make life so much easier for my Spring 2019 semester.

“I’m in my third year of the geosciences degree, junior status. I chose this degree because I want to become a broadcast meteorologist and use it to help save lives and prepare people prior to hazardous weather events. It has been my lifelong dream to be a forecaster and to tell the public about the weather; so this scholarship is helping to make that come true. I could not be happier. Thanks so much to for choosing me for this life-changing scholarship opportunity!”

Congratulations to Briana, Jessica, and Ashley! Helping you reach your education goals means a great deal to us. Best wishes on your studies and all your future endeavors!
