This compensation does not influence our school rankings, resource guides, or other editorially-independent information published on this site.

The doesn’t just exist to help students find the best schools; we want to make that education easier to fund. We do our part by offering six scholarships annually to students enrolled in an online college. This financial help is essential to our mission. So, annually, we award three $1,000 scholarships for the spring semester and three for the fall. Those winners are chosen at random from among all qualifying submissions.

Fall 2019 Online College Scholarship Winner
“Online classes have allowed me to complete my studies at my own pace and on the times that work with my schedule. If online classes were not available, I would not have been able to continue my education because of my disability.”
— Amirah Tibbet

For fall 2019, we are delighted to announce three awardees and spotlight their thoughts on winning the scholarship and the advantages of attending college online:

Sarah Durbin East Central College

Sarah is working toward an associate degree in art.

“Thank you so much,! I am so grateful to be the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship; you have made my year. Every cent counts when it comes to paying tuition, and $1,000 is a huge contribution. I wouldn’t be able to attend college if it were not for scholarships. I am so appreciative of the generosity of businesses like yours that understand how difficult it can be to afford a degree program. I never thought I would be able to get a college degree, certainly not when I was closer to 30 than 20, but I am so glad I decided to make the attempt.

“I have always enjoyed learning, and it’s been a pleasant surprise to discover how much deeper college level learning is. The best part of online college for me has been the incredible sense of accomplishment I feel. With the online platform, success or failure is 100% dependent on my dedication and self-discipline, and I definitely feel like a success.

“My favorite part of college up to this point is how much the content changes how you see the world. Ethics and sociology have lent a layered depth to how I view the world around me and my interactions with friends, family, and strangers. I can say with total conviction that college has made me a different, better person and I will always be grateful for that, and grateful for the people and institutions that contributed to my success.”

Amirah Tibbet National University

Amirah is working toward a bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science.

“I am sincerely honored to have been selected as a recipient of $1,000 scholarship. As I complete my education online through National University, I will be forever grateful for the opportunities this award will provide me. I value my education because it is vital to my future successes, but I rely completely on financial aid, grants, and student loans to finance my education. Receiving this scholarship will ensure I can stay enrolled and will help reduce my financial burdens by providing the assistance I need to continue pursuing my education online.

“I am currently a disabled mother of two and due to my physical limitations, I cannot work, nor can I attend traditional college classes on campus. Taking my classes online through National University has allowed me to continue my education, despite my physical limitations and has been such a positive experience. Online classes have allowed me to complete my studies at my own pace and on the times that work with my schedule. If online classes were not available, I would not have been able to continue my education because of my disability.

“I am grateful for your confidence in me and willingness to contribute to my future education. With your generous contribution, I will be able to complete my clinical laboratory science degree next year and then continue on to get my master’s in public health. Thank you for investing in my future.”

Evan Underwood The University of Oklahoma

Evan is working toward a master’s degree in administrative leadership.

“I am honored and humbled in being selected as a recipient of scholarship. There are many exemplary students out there, and I have no question that each is equally deserving. Financial burdens impede academic performance continuously, and I am appreciative for the ability to remain focused solely on my educational goals.

“One of the most positive aspects concerning online education involves time. In being a state trooper, a full-time graduate student, a husband, and father, it requires significant diligence in finding a balance. The University of Oklahoma has not only enabled this balance to transpire more quickly, but I have been able to network with individuals across the globe who have given tremendous insight, specifically into time management and how to streamline obligations. Combine this with the quality programs offered by the University of Oklahoma — more specifically, the master’s in Administrative Leadership program, — one is bound to leave in a much better position than when they began. I can certainly say that this has been true from my experience, and the knowledge and friendships I have gained prove invaluable daily!

“In attending the University of Oklahoma, one of its most esteemed characteristics is the sense of inclusion; one truly experiences ‘Sooner pride’ in everything they do. Along with this, being able to attend asynchronous classes has also proved to be invaluable. With an ever-changing schedule, it would be nearly impossible to commit to specific times associated with synchronous courses. Online courses also offer an educational perspective which traditional courses cannot. In merely logging into an online platform, one is immediately connected to people worldwide. This broad network not only allows access to an incredible amount of knowledge, but it also provides the ability to learn from other’s experiences. There is no environment as conducive to learning as the University of Oklahoma’s online programs, and I owe much to for allowing me to continue on this educational journey!”

Congratulations to Sarah, Amirah, and Evan! We’re thrilled to play a part in helping you reach your education goals. Best wishes on your studies and all your future endeavors!
