Overview
Grand Canyon University, a private non–denominational Christian University, was founded in 1949 and has become Arizona’s premier private Christian university. The university offers more than 230 academic programs, emphases and certificates for both traditional undergraduate students and working professionals. The University’s curriculum emphasizes interaction with classmates, both in–person and online, and individual attention from instructors while fusing academic rigor with Christian values to help students find their purpose and become skilled, caring professionals.
In response to a vote to establish a college by the Baptist General Convention of Arizona, Grand Canyon University was founded in 1949 and has become Arizona’s premier private Christian university.

Admissions
All online students must first register by completing the Admissions Form, requesting transcripts from any previously attended institutions, and submitting information for financial aid, if applicable.
Admission requirements may differ depending on degree level and program. Below are the basic requirements for online admissions.
Undergraduate Admissions
First-time students – Meet ONE of the following:
- High school diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0
- High school diploma with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and a minimum ACT score of 17 or minimum SAT score of 1380 on a 2400 point scale (prior to 3/1/2016) OR 1000 on a 1600 point scale (after 3/1/2016)
- GED with the following minimum scores, depending on series year:
• 2014 Series: 680
• 2002 to 2013 Series: 3000
• Prior to 2002 Series: 258
Transfer students – Meet ONE of the following, depending on the number of transferable college credits:
- 25–90 transferable college credits: Minimum unweighted GPA of 2.25
- 6–24 transferable college credits: Minimum unweighted GPA of 2.75
- 1–5 transferable college credits: Meet requirements for first–time students
- Possess a bachelor’s degree with a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.0
Graduate Admissions
- Possess an undergraduate degree from a GCU–approved accredited university or program with a minimum GPA of 2.8
- Students possessing an approved undergraduate degree that doesn’t meet the minimum GPA requirements may still be eligible with the following minimum test scores:
– Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT): 500
– Graduate Record Examination (GRE): 1,000 combined verbal/quantitative (prior to August 2011) OR 300 combined verbal/quantitative (after August 2011)
Doctoral Admissions
- Meet ONE of the following:
– Possess a doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 3.4
– Possess a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 3.4
