Highlights of Colorado Technical University

Colorado Technical University focuses on professional and personal development by using innovative technology. The school opened in 1965 to provide technical education and launched its online programs in 1995. The school supports military education through its scholarships for active-duty members of the military, veterans, and their families. Most of its academic programs feature online offerings, allowing students the flexibility to take classes at campuses in Colorado Springs, Aurora, or entirely online.

All courses focus on industry-relevant curriculums with a professional learning model that prizes practical, hands-on situations. Many courses utilize the personalized learning system Intellipath. This adaptive learning technology questions the knowledge students already hold and tailors its courses with new material.

Flexibility is the number one positive experience of online school. The live chats are archived so I can view them anytime I want if I can’t attend the live chat. I love that I can pause and rewind the chat while I am viewing it. The second positive experience is having professors that never hesitate to help. I have had several professors that all have different personalities but I can always count on a prompt reply if I have a question or problem.

Accreditation and Approvals

Colorado Technical University is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). It also holds programmatic accreditation in computer engineering and electrical engineering by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. Business programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredits the bachelor's and master's degrees and the Project Management Institute Global Accreditation Center (PMI Global) accredits the six project management degrees and concentrations offered at CTU.

CTU requires each freshman applicant to submit proof of high school graduation. As an open-enrollment institution, the school does not require the SAT, ACT, or other placement exams. Specific requirements vary by program. Your admission counselor will contact you for an interview and ensure your career goals align with the selected program. Transfer applicants should submit transcripts of all college-level coursework completed. This allows the school to determine which transfer credits qualify.

Graduate applicants must meet the requirements of each program. Each student should possess a minimum 2.0 GPA from their undergraduate studies and hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution. The process includes an entrance essay and interview for doctoral degrees.

As a father and sole financial provider, online schooling was my only option. It wasn’t until I was laid off from my job that I realized, although I was working in the Project Management field, the only thing holding me back was the lack of a four-year degree. Online school gives me the flexibility to work and be a father without missing out on important events. The ability to travel and to work and the freedom to work from my children’s events has really given me this once in a lifetime opportunity. Something that it also shows my kids is that dad is working hard to acheive goals. It really sets the ball in motion to show them that a little extra effort will give them all they need in their lives. Being a dad first is the greatest gift.
