Stony Brook University (formerly State University of New York at Stony Brook) is a public research university located in Stony Brook, New York.
It is one of the universities comprising the Association of American Universities, an invitation-only organization of leading research universities in North America.
Stony Brook University has a Research and Development Park next to its main campus. The university also owns the Stony Brook University Medical Center and co-manages the Brookhaven National Laboratory under contract with the authority of the U.S. Department of Energy.

The Honors College provides a special curriculum for honors students.
