School counselors connect with every aspect of student life. Teachers and principals are more visible, but school counselors (don’t call them “guidance counselors,” though) need to be celebrated too!
National School Counseling Week is Feb. 6–10, 2017. So, go ahead and celebrate a school counselor that helped you or your children.
We start the festivities with the following:
How has the school counseling profession changed over time? We talk to both an active and a retired counselor to see what has changed over the years in counseling, and whether students today are the same as yesteryear. You may be surprised!
We assist in the counseling role and provide a great resource to school counselors with our free, online book The Savvy Student’s Guide to College Education. Students can learn what they need to prepare for college, succeed in higher ed, and find a worthwhile career. Check it out.
Know a deserving school counselor who has changed lives for the better? Nominate him or her for the $20,000 Escalante-Gradillas Prize for Best in Education. For 2017, the prize will go to a school administrator, which includes school counselors, principals, curriculum designers, and other non-classroom-based educators. Celebrate the week by nominating a great school counselor!

Discover what school counseling is like today, point a student to a great, online counseling source, and then reward a deserving counselor you know with an opportunity to win a $20,000 prize.
Now THAT’s a party!
